On the
door (please allow 30 mins before the concert)
We commence our 2010-2011 concert season with a performance of one of Haydn's most
popular oratorios. First performed in Vienna in April 1801, and
based on the English poem The Seasons by James Thomson, The Seasons
followed the path of its predecessor, Haydn's most successful oratorio,
The Creation. Among the rousing choruses are a hunting song with
horn calls, a wine celebration with dancing peasants, a loud
thunderstorm (akin to Beethoven's fourth movement), and a stirring ode
to toil !!!
