Joining the Choir - FAQs
If you are thinking
of joining the choir, here are the answers to a few Frequently Asked
Questions that you may find helpful.
-
Where & when are rehearsals ?
The choir rehearses
every Wednesday (from 7.30 pm to 9.45 pm) at Lillington Primary
School (see below). Members are expected to attend most rehearsals, to ensure that
we maintain a high quality of performance. In addition to weekly
rehearsals, we hold a Saturday Workshop each term when we give time to
developing our individual voices and the sound of the choir as a whole.
-
Can I try it out ?
You are welcome to
come along and join us on a trial basis for a few weeks and get a feeling for the
choir. We will lend you the necessary music, subject to a small
charge for music hire. We think you will find us
friendly and helpful.
-
Will I need an Audition?
After two or three
weeks, you will be asked to take an audition. This will involve some
voice exercises, simple sight reading and you may be asked to prepare a
short piece to sing. This audition will be performed privately with the
conductor, and usually takes place on a normal rehearsal night.
If this sounds serious, don't be alarmed! As well as striving for
choral perfection we like to enjoy ourselves in the process!
-
How much will it cost ?
As a new
member, you will enjoy your first term subscription free. Once you are a
full member of the choir, you will need to pay a proportion of the
annual subscription for the remaining terms and to hire
or buy music for concerts. The annual
subscription rate for 2009/2010 is £80, reduced for students, under 25s
and UB40s. Fees are normally due in September, and can be
paid by cash/cheque, online banking, or in instalments by standing order.
