RLSBC takes part in the Coventry Biennial 2021

Sunday 19th September 2021

A film called Phoenix City 2021 by local artist and film-maker Duncan Whitley will feature a contribution by the choir on its soundtrack.

Back in early July, members of the choir got together under Lee Dunleavy’s direction to record the Introitus from Mozart’s Requiem. We were asked to make the recording as part of the soundtrack for a film called Phoenix City 2021 by local film-maker Duncan Whitley. This film explores the relationship between the city of Coventry and the mythical phoenix, the bird that is believed to rise from the ashes to live again.

The film will form part of the HYPER-POSSIBLE installation at the Herbert Art Gallery in the centre of Coventry, which will be on show from October 8th through to February 2022. More information about the installation can be found on the Coventry Biennial 2021 website (Click Here).

There will also be a special event at The Box, Fargo Village (Coventry) organised by CineCov with the Biennial on 14th October. This will be a screening of Phoenix City 2021 with the soundtrack mixed live for the event, followed by a Q&A.  Tickets for this event will be available shortly (Click Here).

The choir is delighted to have been able to make a small contribution to the Coventry Biennial 2021, and we are very grateful to Duncan Whitley for inviting us to take part.
